Maximizing Points While Shopping

For those of you that use your credit card points to give you an extra trip at the end of the year, utilizing the shopping portals can give you that extra leverage of points that you need in order to maximize that amount of miles that you can earn per dollar. Taking that $365 purchase to up to 6000+ miles, Yowzah! It’s so easy that this makes couponing look like rocket science. Listen, if you are going to spend the money to pay for whatever it is you want, why not make frequent flyer points and get a free trip out of it?

First and foremost for those of you who don’t know what shopping portals are they looks something like this:

These portals are run by various airlines, hotel chains, and even credit card companies. They have hundreds of stores that are in their inventory and even some stores where you can get your groceries from! The only way that you can actually earn the mileage, is if you:

a) Sign up and link your frequent flyer # to your shopping portal account (account is free)

b) Start at the portal FIRST before you go into the store.

Unlike the Dining Portals, you can use any form of payment (except for cash, reason being is that you can’t hand them physical cash through the computer, but atm/debit cards are fine) even gift cards! I’ll get to that in a minute.

The only caveat to the shopping portals is that they do have some restrictions. Most of the time they do not allow any sort of gift card purchases, coupons or promotions outside of what is already offered on the website. So that promo card that Bed Bath and Beyond sends you for 30% off in the mail, if you use that then the mileage bonus is null and void, so read the exceptions first before you shop. They typically show up before they transfer you over to the actual website.

Finding the Peak Times for Multipliers

As you can see, some stores have multipliers where you can get more miles to the dollars. THESE CHANGE DAILY. So if you play your cards right, you can get pinpoint the days where some stores are at their peak before they drop back down. I’ve noticed a trend that when points are amplified to their highest amount they don’t last for longer than 3 days. For example: Macy’s typically gives a 2mi/ $1 multiplier on any given occasion. However during a promotion right now on the portal they’re giving an additional 6000 miles if you spend over $1250. So 4 days before the promotion ends, Macy’s amplified their mileage to 8mi/$1 for three days. However on the last day of the promotion, they dropped it to 6mi/$1. Now this is always subject to change.

Using the United Mileage X App

My best friend actually told me about this app. This app is God sent for those of us who like to shop online and get points, but want to be in the stores to try the stuff on and get the product right away. I don’t need to go too much into detail, you can get the jist of it in the video below:

You must have a smart phone in order to use this device since it is an app that is FREE in the app store. It is available for android and iOS systems so no one feels left out. All the multipliers can range anywhere from 1-5mi/ $1, however these don’t change. If you haven’t figured out in the video already, the app basically creates a gift card for the exact amount of your purchase. So when you’re paying tell the clerk that you’re paying with a gift card. What’s nice about this, is that you can use this at select restaurants as well in order to pay for your meals. Side note: make sure that you check the range of how much you can make a gift card for, some places have minimums so you may end up overspending!

Maximizing the Multipliers with the United Mileage X App

Its a bit easier to show you how to do this if I just show you an example of what I did. In this instance, I was doing my Christmas shopping at on the United Shopping Portal.

So please imagine this says 12 miles/$ because that what it said yesterday, and since I was shopping until 11:30pm I couldn’t get myself to write this post and grab a pic (so forgive me). See how it changes and drops so quickly?! Anyway, at this point I had completely re-arranged my Christmas list because on the United Mileage X app Sephora was at it’s regular 5mi/$

image1 (1)

Now since the app created an online ‘gift card’, what’s to stop me from purchasing the items online and using the gift card that I made on the app and using it online? Nothing. So I did! In addition, I used my United Explorer Card to purchase the gift card on the app which gives me an extra mile for every dollar I spend. So to recap:

12 Miles/ $ – via United MileagePlus Shopping portal

5 Miles/ $ – Sephora Gift Card via United Mileage X App

1 Mile/ $ – United Explorer Credit Card

= 18 Miles/ $

Total Spent: $365

Total Mileage Earned: 6,570

I personally like to *favorite* all the stores that are both on the United Mileage App and on the Shopping Portal so that I know that I can maximize on mileage bonuses when I need to go shopping and see what my options are when picking the bonus that offers the most. So for this upcoming holiday season I hope you try this out and hopefully if you can plan it right you can manage to get some extra miles for a nice trip!

What’s a Poshmark Follower?

In a plain simple equation: follower = someone who follows your closet.

This is a user who will be notified when you add a new item, share, & like a listing. They ‘follow’ your activity on the app. Now what does this mean?

more followers you have = more eyes on your closet = more sales = more $

You want to have more followers because the chance of your item’s being seen is much higher and an overall sales increase. If you are in need of followers check out my blog post here on How To Get More Followers.

My 10 Minute Beauty Ritual

I don’t dooooooo make up. But knowing that I have to look my best everyday it’s been kinda hard to get myself to drag my butt out of bed and into my face. So as of recently I’ve been giving myself just the BARE minimum as to what would be quick and easy to use everyday but will not take me over 10 mins to do.

Hey now, I need the full look! So I came up with an easy 5 step solution to get this look without breaking the ‘Time Bank”. I call it “EEBBH”

E- Eyes

E- Eyelashes

B- Brows

B- Blush

Now this is MY beauty ritual, for me it’s best that I highlight these 5 items and for some of you out there that don’t need to spend the time on brows but would like to do lips, then please by all means do so. However unless you wake up and your hair is on fleeeeeeek you bess believe that you will keep hair on this docket!

For me, eyes are simply just that…I put in my contacts. I actually need them to see so if you don’t suffer from blindness like me, then you can opt for moisturizer or a base for your face.

If you don’t dabble in the art of eyelashes, you should really start. I’ve been using Velour Lashes ($23) as of late. I love the way they just sit on your eyes and they last forever. I think I purchased 1 pair and I’ve already used them over 20 times! It’s a pretty good value!

image1xlAlso If you’re looking for an amazing lash, these were the ones I used on my wedding day in Paris. They last forever and they’re a bit more inexpensive as well! Eylure Definition Lashes – No. 123 ($9.85)

Dem Brows Doe. I probably couldn’t shape my brows as perfectly, and as easily without Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Pomade and Brow Powder. When applying, I always use the Duo Brush #12 and it makes it so much easier to use.

If you don’t know how to get your brown on fleeeek right quick, then check out this video by Anastasia Beverly Hills:

I guess you can say I’m a creature of habit. I’ve always used Bobbi Brown Blush ($28) every since my mom got it for me, so I’ve just stuck with it. But something about blush always makes me and my fair skin just feel a bit like I have some color without going overboard on the make up. Just a light touch of color and I’m ready to go! You can always sub this out for contouring, I do that too when I have an extra 5 mins but what I use is Anastasia Contouring Powder Kit ($40).

Now I read somewhere that “Your hair is your weapon“. No truer words to live by! So I make sure to sharpen that weapon everyday with at least something. Even if it’s a tiny pony tail, I’ll curl my bangs. But messy buns, or hair clips don’t count for me. When you have good hair, confidence will ooze out of you. So take 2 minutes, and make ’em heel!

Top 5 Airplane Essentials

The holidays are coming up it’s a hot time for travel! I never thought that I would be the type of person that would need to fly home for Thanksgiving, but it’s crazy where life you. A California girl dropped right in the north central part of the country and dreaming of blue California skies. But before I get there I have a few favorites that I take along with me before I fly.

Now I would like to say that I’ve become a bit of an expert at travel. I’ve had a job that requires me to travel as well as been very for fortunate to have been given opportunities to travel internationally and sat in every class. So after traveling so much, I’ve compiled a small list of the absolute 5 things I cannot travel without.

5) Chanel Hydra Beauty ($50)

I don’t know what it is about airplanes but it makes my lips crack like….crack. Also I have a bad habit of peeling my lips when they’re chapped, but thankfully I have my lip balm to remedy almost instantly. I love this Chanel lip balm ($50) and worth every stinkin’ penny. I was out buying lipstick when the Chanel rep added this on my lips 30 seconds before applying the lipstick and my lips were instantly moist and plump. Do your DSL’s a favor ladies and try this stuff out!

4) Memory Foam Travel Pillow ($20)

If you’re planning on doing any kind of long haul trip or even wanting to catch some Zz’s while you’re in flight, this pillow will change your flight from lame to lux! No matter what cabin you’re in this pillow will change the way you make travel sleep. If you’re in first class this makes your flat bed all the better, but if you’re in coach, throw your back pack or duffel on top of your tray table and lay this bad boy on top. Hands down best sleep you’ll ever have in economy!

3) Hydro Flask Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle ($37)

I cannot leave my house without this bottle. My mother in law gave these out as gifts one Christmas and I’ve held on to it ever since. On every trip that I’ve had this little bottle is a life saver on many occasions. It’s quite large in size but they have several different options to choose from. The best thing about this bottle is that it keeps it’s hot contents hot and cold contents cold for a very long period of time. I left this water bottle filled with ice in the car all day in 100 degree weather and at the end of the day there was still ice in it. It’s magic! Buy one and you’ll thank me later!

2) New Trent PowerPak+ (149.99)

I’ve probably saved myself a few hours of pure boredom if I didn’t have my New Trent to keep my devices alive. It takes forever to charge all the way, which is a downer but I have charged pretty much my iPad/ iPhone 6/ Sony A6000/ Ryan’s Phones & Ipad all on one charge of this bad boy. So on those long days of travel with 3 stopovers and you don’t arrive until 6Am the next morning, this keeps your devices from dying out on you.

1) Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones ($299)

71hI5ryJedL._SL1500_If you’ve never tried these, I suggest you run your ass to a BOSE store to give this a try. I absolutely will NOT enter a commercial airline without these bad boys. This is the best investment I’ve made for my travel and I suggest you do so as well. I spent an 11 hour flight from FRA (Frankfurt, Germany) to DTW (Detroit, MI) and sat in a cacophony of screaming crying babies. Once I bought these and turn them on and play my music, I can’t even hear us take off. Put these on you x-mas wish list or petition for a group gift because you will never fly the same again!

The 411 on Poshmark’s Rating System

Morning everyone!

Now I know the content seems to be a bit outdated for this particular subject. Poshmark has had a rating system for awhile now, but for those of you who are a bit blind to the whole concept of the rating system this post is just to give you all the ins and outs of how Poshmark does their rating system.

So for those of you who are NEW and have no idea of what the rating system is, it’s as follows:

  1. You buy an item & receive said item
  2. Once you ‘Mark Item Received’ you rate the seller based on a 5 star grading scale (1 being the worst – 5 being the best)
  3. If the rating is less than 5 stars you have a selection of categories that you can choose as to what you think the seller can improve on.
  4. If you rate the item 5 stars then you can leave an optional message.

YAY great! So now here’s where the additional information comes in. For those of you who don’t know, the rating system is entirely for the seller’s information ONLY. Any comments or needs of improvement is solely at the viewing of the buyers discretion. That means, you don’t even have to see what your buyer is telling you to improve on if you don’t want to. I think I have my notifications set to only view comments on listings so I don’t even see half the ratings (probably shouldn’t really admit that). But just so you don’t get all butt hurt when people give you a 1 star rating, no one can actually see that 1 star. In addition, I would advise anyone who is on Poshmark to not announce that you received anything less than 5 stars, since no one would know about it anyway, you’d only be hurting yourself. Also that average rating that you see in your stats, can only been seen by you. Those tools are set to help you out as a seller to provide better quality service into the community so don’t completely ignore it!

These are a bit tricky to explain, but remember how I told you that anything less than 5 stars will have an ‘improvement’ option? and that people won’t see your ratings? Well that holds true to any 5 star rating as well. You aren’t able to see any 5 star rating that with without that optional comment. They do however count towards your overall rating, but those ratings won’t be seen by the public. If you are the one giving the 5 star rating it never hurts to opt to add the additional note at the end (unless you plan on reselling the item, see TIP for more info). So make sure to add a sweet little note if you can, you can always make someone’s day just by saying something nice!

These are the only ratings that people ever see is if you really do have a 5 star experience and you have something to say about it. Love Notes were added into the community and to users profiles to spread the Posh Love. If you already don’t know what Posh Love is, it’s a term that was coined by Team Posh that signifies that efforts by the users to help and support the positivity within the community. So to continue the Posh Love and still give the sellers an awareness of how they were doing, they came up with a way to create a rating system but only show the good reviews. That way they could still make the buyer feel that any poor review were to be kept private. So don’t fret if you ever receive a poor rating, the only ones that show are the 5 star reviews with the comments that your buyer opted for.

TIP: On the other hand for those of you who are on the other side of the coin and you are buying, just know that any comment you make on a 5 star rating will show up on your profile as a Love Note Given. So if your strategy is to buy low on Poshmark and resell at an inflated price, be mindful that you may want to reconsider if you don’t want people to know your business tactics.

Well I hope this give you a bit more ease into the weekend and to not stress or harass any of your buyers for giving you a rating that you *may* feel is undeserved. Make sure you spread the Posh Love and send out the love notes as much as you can and give true and honest ratings. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to put them in the box below. Make sure to subscribe to my blog from now until Christmas I will be updating more and more posts to get you guy to sell more and make more for the holiday season!
