What I got to do to stay healthy!

Lifetime Fitness 60-Day Challenge

I feel a bit late writing this up seeing as though the challenge started 3 weeks ago. But nevertheless I’ve started on my quest to do something great. For the past 3 years I’ve had 2 failed attempts at losing weight and this time I’m not going to let it happen. You know what they say, “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” So I feel much more determined! 😏
I’ve started out with about a month’s worth of training already in working with the personal training group called TEAM Weightloss. When you sign up for the training you basically start at TEAM Weightloss, then you graduate to TEAM Fitness, and from there you move on to TEAM Bootcamp. So I’m still dusting the cobwebs off the ole joints and getting my muscles used to working out. But it’s getting there, I still have a hard time and I’ve been working out 4 weeks before the challenge (7 total weeks).

Refreshing Your Fridge

Morning healthy people!

Today was pretty great in the sense that HGF has gotten a new make over, so if you’re reading this on your phone by email, then mosey on down to the desktop site to check out the new and improved HGF! But also since last weekend I spent my Memorial Day weekend at the Indy500 dying of heat exhaustion and bingeing on cheese fries, it was good to get back in the groove of things. I missed my weekly Weight Watchers meeting due to the fact that Ryan and I did a 8 mile bike ride through Indianapolis so I feel like it was a fair trade off. But this week’s topic was something I’ve been meaning to do for awhile that I think we should all get around to doing.

My fridge, if I had one word to describe it, would be “shit show”. Sorry I guess that was two words, but you get the idea. There’s nothing like cleaning out the old and in with the new, it’s almost refreshing on the eyes as well. Everybody likes to spring clean and one of the best things you can do now to start fresh, is to clean out the old fridge!

Here are some amazing tips on how you can really start fresh and get closer to that new summer bod:

  1. Out with the old and in with the new.

    Start out my removing all the old left overs in the back and even some in the freezer to make room for all the new goodness that’s to be added in. This also includes all those old, sauces, stale dressings, and meats that have been looked over. I’ve been raised to not throw anything away because you may never know when you need it again kinda thing. But if you haven’t touched it, or used it then it needs to go!

  2. Out with some of the NEW too!

    That new bag of Doritos, or that 6 pack of ranch dressing? Got to go! I mean, you do what you want to with your food, but overly processed foods with massive amount of chemicals, don’t deserve to be in your body. So give them to a neighbor, or chuck ’em. Don’t hold on to food you won’t eat, or more importantly, shouldn’t eat!

  3. Switch things up!

    Now that you’ve successfully cleared out the fridge, one of the best tips that I’ve been told was to switch everything around in your fridge. All the sauces and dressings go from the door to the drawer. All the fruits and veggies go right out in front on the shelves and all the drinks move to the side. Make the first thing you see your veggies and make all the breads, carbs, sauces, pastes a secondary additive. Make all the good stuff the star of your meal.

  4. Put good food in your fridge!

    The best piece of advice that was ever told to me, was from my leader, and she said that it’s important that you put good food in your home because you should WANT to eat at home. You should never had the attitude that you want to eat out to get away from your home cooked nasty food. You are 100% in control of your food consumption. So make great choices on foods that you do like. Don’t fill your pantry full of organic gluten free chalk tasting protein bars if you don’t like them, don’t make being healthy torture! Opt for you favorite organic foods. Meal plan your favorite healthy dishes, and buy only foods you like that are good for you. It will only make transitioning to a healthier lifestyle much easier for you and your family.

  5. Don’t just refresh your fridge, refresh your mind, body, and spirit.

    One exercise that we did during our meeting was to find ways to refresh our mind body and spirit.  For my mind: I like to sleep. So that means no cell phones, eReaders, books, nothing in bed. For my body: it’s working out, and challenging myself. I’ve been working out consistently for the past month and for whatever reason, despite the fact that I don’t see progress, I still go because it makes me feel better about myself. For my spirit, I like to pray. Some people don’t like to do that, but I heard others say they like to spend time with their kids, grand kids, have family time, or meditate, the best one I heard was to go to the spa! Now that can benefit anyone’s spirit! lol

So whatever you do, whenever you decide to start clean and fresh, those are a few tips that you can do to jumpstart your life change and put your best foot forward. Change is good, and you’re doing the right thing. I think deep down inside you know what’s good for you, for your body, and for your health. You deserve the best! Hope this helps =)

Eat Slowly and Mindfully

First thing out of my husband’s mouth, “Haha, this is something that Ediza does NOT do!” And that jerk is 100% right! This week’s WW meeting is something that I’ve been attempting the past 2 weeks. It’s even something that I’ve tried last night! So it was quite the refresher course to hear about all the different ways that you can do to control your food intake. Now don’t get me wrong, I love to shovel popcorn by to the fistfuls when I’m watching a movie. Set Up Your Path

This week’s Weight Watcher’s topic revolved around “Setting Up Your Path For Success”. I like attending meetings here at Weight Watchers, for awhile I haven’t been going because of my birthday extravaganza. So they welcomed me with open arms once I stepped back in. Not to mention that I did gain some weight from the trip and wanted to get back into shape. So coming back was like getting together with your old girlfriends. They are like a support system like none other, as well as a boat load of knowledge with tips and tricks to help you through the week. 

The topic of this week was actually something that I’ve been doing as of recent, but didn’t really implement into my daily thought process. For those of you who are looking to shed some poundage, or even tone up for the upcoming summer vacation, then setting a plan needs to be at the top of your list. Planning is what everyone does before they start a challenge and making it fool proof is what you need to do in order to succeed. We were asked what were some things that we wanted to accomplish; one girl mentioned that she wanted to track her food everyday, another said she wanted to get her workouts in, and another girl said she was going to be going out to eat a few times this week and wanted to pick out her meals beforehand so she knew how many points she was going to be spending. 

Setting Up Your Path

Whatever the case is, my point is that whatever you’re doing, you know more about yourself than anyone. So whatever goal you set for yourself, just make sure that you take the extra time to think about what could go wrong in your plan to stop you from achieving your weight loss goal, and prevent what you can! 

For myself, I’ve signed up for TEAM Weightloss at my gym (basically a Bootcamp) and if you pay for the month, you only get  12 sessions, and if you miss ANY then there’s no makeups. So kiss your mulah goodbye, and I have this pet peeve of wasting money, so I can’t let that happen. One thing that I know that’s stopping me, is that I travel for work every month. So I plan on going to a branch out there and taking my classes so I don’t miss out, therefore keeping my goal.

Make your goals at the forefront of your mind, and make moves in your daily routine to make them a reality. Think about the outcome, visualize your success and follow through with the steps in your plan.
