Now that taxes are behind us, it’s time to start looking onward ho! 2017 may be killer for you all, because this is the year *I feel it* that people are going to be getting that nice pay off that we’re all been working so hard for! At least I hope so, but after going through all the headache of doing my 2016 taxes, I know 2017 is going to be a doozy. This is the year where I cranked it up a TON, I know I am missing a few expenses here and there in 2016, but 2017 I’ve been putting out 4x the effort. So I need to know everything I don’t know, because I owe money this year, and it sucks balls.
I personally like taking Kreithchele’s Academy, the classes helped me prepare for next year, just knowing there was more that I could do for 2017. If your a posher, I would check it out just so you’re better prepared for next year.

Lucky you! Not many people know these but after trying some things out I’ve managed to find the *BEST* ways to get your items seen and sold on Poshmark. I’d like to share with you all some of my sharing strategies and skills that can get your stuff seen and sold! I mean, I don’t expect you’re here for shits and giggles, you wanna know how to sell more and make billionz! If you don’t know what sharing is, please read this first before and then catch on up here.
Well I can’t get you to billionaire status, but I can get you on your way. So read on!
Well first and foremost, let’s go with my daily routine:
Where and what I share is also very very important. As much as I love just sharing my one item I want to sell over and over again, be careful when doing that because the system may mark it as spam and it lowers the value of the listing. So take a peek into what I do to help you increase your sales and your value as a member of the Poshmark community!
I share my own closet.
This is one of the mostly asked questions that I get. How do you share your own closet? Easily, I share each item I have in my closet to ‘my followers’. It’s a lot, but you gotta do it! Sharing your own closet is another sense of marketing for yourself. It’s best to do so in the morning but you shouldn’t do it more than just a few times a day.
I share my feed
Sharing your feed exposes you to new and sometimes fresh items from your followers and from people you follow. Plus you have a chance to look at items that you probably wouldn’t see in your network of friends.
I share past parties
I am not part of a share group or share parties.
This is one of the best things that I do. I share from some of the old parties. Why? Because here is a huge network of people that aren’t necessarily in my network… that ultimately I want part of my network. Think about it, everyone shares to parties, or shares some of their followers, followers, followers stuff to parties. I WANT to connect with them. I want them to look into my closet and check things out if they’ve never seen my stuff. Branch out, and sharing from parties is one of the best ways to reach people you haven’t met before!

The reason I am not part of share groups is that having a share group doesn’t give you as much reach as you need to get your closet out there. Imagine if you were in a rock band, and you wanted to make it big, and you sang to an audience of the same 50 people…everyday. You’re not gonna get very far. So diversify your efforts and try breaking out of the bubble of share groups. On the other hand, share groups are a fun way to get to know other people, but to me there’s just a lot of pressure to keep up with the demands sometimes and I prefer a more casual experience.
Share likeminded brands
Ok so this one is a 2 part. If I can remember to do this, I share my items that are of a certain brand so that they appear at the top of my closet. Then I go into that brand and start sharing some of the items at the top. When items appear at the top, it means that the user is active and on the app, hence why they are sharing their own item. In turn if you share their items, they share your items. Typically if they like that brand, they are more inclined to purchase items of that brand, so when they are looking at the items to share there’s more of a *possibility* of them purchasing.
So there you have it MY sharing techniques. Try these out if you wanna, it beats just sharing your feed or just the same people in your follow groups.

Today as I was listing a few items in my Poshmark closet it struck me how many details and descriptions you have to add in your listing before it actually goes up on the market. Not saying that listing an item takes hours but if you can spend a little extra time slamming every detail that you can initially in a listing, it can really benefit you in the long run!
Now I don’t know the exact percentage but what I do know is that a great majority of people who purchase on Poshmark primarily have an idea of what they’re looking for so they shop based on the search function. For instance: if someone’s looking for new yoga clothes, they’re either seachering under the type of item specifically, or a brand.
Poshmark in their newest update (v 2.52) has grown much smarter to your shopping habits and patterns to provide you with the BEST shopping experience so that you can buy what you need or what you may potentially want. So if you typically buy items that are NTW by Lululemon Athletica then they’re going to show you items in your size that are NWT by Lululemon. Also saving people and brands that you’ve had the latest interactions with to make shopping easier. Ok, so what does that mean?
I have a point I promise!
Knowing that people shop by searching and Poshmark’s analytics this is very much to your benefit as a seller. Why? Because each part of your listing is one extra detail that people can search and *FIND* you items! Everyone talks about being seen, having their items get seen by people so they have a higher chance of purchasing right? All of the strategies and tactics that we use, it’s all to get your items in front of buyers to BUY them. Well it really all starts at the beginning with the listing. Titling, details and descriptions are added outlets to people’s searches. Throw in as many details as you can in your listings (and don’t use hashtags # they don’t work) so your listings pop up as often as they can when people are searching.
Oh, and the part about Poshmark?
Well, Poshmark curates your feed for you based on your followers, likes, shares, searches, and shopping habits. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a compilation of JUST your followers, Poshmark wants you to check out items that may fit your criteria so you can potentially purchase even though you may not follow the person or they may not follow you. This is what happens when a listing shows up organically. This is what you want. You want your items to be naturally placed in front of people’s eyes without any additional effort. No shares from you, no shares from others, just put in the front window of a potential shopper who has purchased items like yours before. Easy fo sheezy!
Ok so how do you get that magical organic listing that shows up on people’s feeds and on a bunch of people’s search finds?
Adding as much detail to your items really increases your chances of finding the RIGHT shopper to you. Going off of this listing, anything in 8.5 / brown / flats my listing will pop up at the top! Alternatively, if I look in Seychelles/ 8.5 my listing will be at the top as well. So adding those details increases your chances of getting your items seen by the right buyer.
What you want to avoid is labeling your items generically. In the title you should never name your items as: Shoes. If an item has a name, use it. Don’t know it? Google it. If it’s by a brand, even if it isn’t mainstream, use it. Throw the color, the material type, what kind of shoe it is (boot, flat, stiletto) then toss it in!

Reader Tamara Austin sent me a few Poshmark listing questions that I thought should be answered in a blog post:
“What you recommend pricing items should be? I was only able to find one other Poshmarker who made the recommendation that you should mark 50-40% off retail price, and 30% items that are new with tags. What is your take on pricing? Do you mark off a different percentage if the item is new with tags? Do you wait for a certain amount of time to go by before lowering your pricing? I see there is a price drop button (still learning about that through your formula).”
Disclaimer: I for one am not a business expert. I also am not a marketing expert, so please don’t take my word as the bible. I am only an expert on my own experiences and what has been proven successful to me. So your mileage may very.
I generally have a rule of thumb when it comes to pricing things: Don’t spend what you can’t sell. I for one have this problem allllllllllllll the freakin time. I buy something to resell and then for whatever reason forget to list the item and then later can’t sell it afterwards. OR spend on an item only to break even or lose money on a deal. Pricing your items needs to be at a sweet spot to where people will purchase your items at a decent price and you can make some sweet cash off of it!
First and foremost, you can price anything however you want to. I don’t know if you’re Jennifer Lawrence or if you’re Dita Von Tease. Because if you are, you can pretty much get away with selling an old pair of gym shorts for an obscene amount of money and forego all my advice. But if you’re like me, then listen up!
NEW with Tags! (NWT)
There are two parts of this puzzle. Having something new with tags doesn’t mean you get free reign to price however you want. Obviously there’s a price cap, and condition still plays a huge role when you are pricing. If something is NWT it doesn’t automatically make it in pristine condition. Additionally if it’s new but also very old you probably won’t get to price too high. Alternatively, if you have a brand new item that’s well worth its value then feel free to price even up to retail. The only problem with that is, people don’t like to buy anything that’s priced retail, otherwise they would just buy it retail. You can only get away with this if it’s a limited edition kind of product, if that’s the case then it’s no holds bar at that point. But if you’re buying it cheap, I never go buy what’s on the price tag, I always go by what I PAID for it. I tend to put at least a 50% markup on items because I know Poshmark’s commission is 20% and I would like to get at least 30% more for the item. Does that always happen? No. Because people lowball the fuck outta me, and I get desperate or if I’m too lazy to check my spreadsheet to see if I’m losing money on something or not. So learn from my laziness and keep your prices handy!
Brand name items
My favorite category! For me personally, this is something I stick with if I am planning on reselling at all. People LOVE brands, they stick to brands, they follow and pledge their allegiance to brands. It’s one of the safest bets you can make as a seller in this Poshmarket, so choose your brands wisely! When you’re pricing your brands you can get away with close to retail because people are loyal. However keep you eye out for dying brands. Some brands lose value on the market if they are constantly being sold for less and less, so check how the brand is doing on the app and see what people are selling it for and price around there. But like I said earlier, it’s your prerogative how you price, you just don’t want to be completely unapproachable to where people are embarrassed to give you a reasonable offer for an item when it comes off as a lowball.
I personally have a rule for used items that are:
Not brand named.
Not in season.
Excellent – Good condition.
I don’t price with the expectation that I am making over $20. That’s just a going trend on items that have sold with me on my closet. Now I don’t tend to have super cute clothes in my closet, but if there’s an item that should just go to the goodwill or a local women’s rescue mission, i’ll just either part with it or sell it cheap. Now believe you me I take nice pics of the item, and clean it and spiff it up to market the crap out of it. But if it doesn’t sell and you’re sure it won’t sell, then cut your losses and move on. Now you can list higher than $25 if you want, but if it’s handmade, one of a kind item then it’ll take much more convincing on your end to get it sold.
This is not BIBLE but this is a guide on how I price things based on how I sell. I usually sell at least one thing a day, if I am doing everything right. So hopefully you adjust on your items and then they can start flying off the shelves at reasonable rates.
